Center for Court InnovationYulise Waters, Director of Dallas County Programs, had a great time engaging in criminal justice conversation today at the Center for Court Innovation with some amazing criminal justice practitioners.
Urban gun violence initiativeElizabeth Henneke and Yulise Waters, joined a coalition of Dallas police, politicians, faith leaders and community activists to create a comprehensive plan to reduce gun violence in the county.
LSJA is thrilled to be a part of this group that centers community leaders and the directly impacted at the heart of this solutions-based group. Dallas Truth Racial Healing and Transformation's Race Equity NOW CohortLSJA attended the 1st convening of Dallas Truth Racial Healing and Transformation's Race Equity NOW Cohort, touching on racial history and the ways in which race has impacted and influenced all of us personally and professionally.
We are looking forward to learning and growing in the remaining sessions. THE HEALTH IMPACT OF CHILDHOOD CRIMINALIZATIONElizabeth joined MEASURE to discuss the health impact associated with childhood incarceration, the school to prison pipeline and early childhood criminalization and how we might apply community mobilization & actionable steps to change the statistics. BLACK, WHITE AND SUNSHINE
LSJA joined Houston Play on Purpose at the debut of the groundbreaking stage play Black, White & Sunshine, which sheds light on the disproportionality of minority children swept into both the juvenile justice and child welfare systems. While various procedures are in place to protect underserved youth, Sunshine exposes how "one-size fits all" policies and legislation often do a disservice to children of color and those born into less fortunate circumstances. LSJA's Executive Director spoke at a panel hosted by 100 Black Men of Metropolitan Houston after the event on August 4, 2019.
